Caribbean rom and the foodhabits of the caribbean bats.

To my Berliner friends – you can't imagine the heat, the color of the water, the color of the sand, the freshness of the air, the stars.

Our first week in the Caribbean waters is soon over. This week have been full of experiences and new impressions. I say again – wow, the water, the nightsky, the sand, the heat. Mein gott! We have been sailing thrugh warm water – Yes, Wolf, I finally have dived in warm water – warm winds under the most brilliiant stars.

On the way over to Bequia I saw an unexpected pattern in the water, reminding of water going over shallow water. Hmm, there shall not be any rocks here, it¨s supposed to be 600 meter deep here? And then – a jumping whale! It jumped up out of the water and threw it's huge body back down in the water with a huge splash. Two times it jumped! Then it blew and dove back into the depths.

The temperature here is daytime way over 32 degrees. The boat is never cooler than 30 degrees and my clothing is no more than my dignity allows me to. The temperature here is almost as high as the prices. You won't grow fat down here to use a poor translation of a Swedish expression.

After Bequia we went to Salt Whistle bay, Maeyreau. Our goal was Tobago Cays but we didn't reach it in time for sundown, so we stopped there instead. There we enjoyed our second fruit coma – eating fresh local sunwarm fruit until you can't take it more. Unfortunately the Caribbean bats enjoyed our choice of fruit as well as we did, and we suddenly found ourselves sharing our fruit with a dozen bats!

As the say in Kiruna – det här är ju int' helt överdjävligt (”this isn't totally bad”)

The crew of Matilda thrugh Urban.

  1. Pure and utter awesomeness. Please, keep on posting. I need something to think about while yet another flurry of snow and ice pellets whizzes by the windows. I think every single island ahead of you has a German schlager song with its name. OK, "St. Vincent and the Grenadines" may be the exception; sounds more like a hip indietronic band.

Save travels, and always a handful of water under the keel.
